Lots of rain. Lots and lots of rain. It's constantly cloudy, the ground is covered in nice deep puddles, and it's getting down to freezing at night so there's plenty of ice-risk. Joy.

I love computers, but most fonts can't get the number 4 to be as pretty as it was in days of yore. Sigh.
It should look something like this:

Yuck, I don't like them.
But I like Demetri Martin's joke about them:
But I like Demetri Martin's joke about them:
“I was making pancakes the other day and a fly flew into the kitchen. And that’s when I realized that a spatula is a lot like a fly-swatter. And a crushed fly is a lot like a blueberry. And a roommate is a lot like a fly eater.”

Until graduation. Sixteen of those are class days. Seventeen more hours of work. Four more major tests, and four minor. Three more major papers. Two presentations, one major, one minor.
Sigh.
Sigh.

Knock knock!
Who's there?
By.
By who?
My good fellow, I do believe you meant to say by whom.

Quote of the day:
"They were translating a cartoon that involved four adolescent turtles... do you know the cartoon?"
"You mean Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?"
"Ah yes!"
My linguistics professor is a little bit oblivious when it comes to pop culture. This is the guy who didn't know that pirates say "Arrr!"

An old Eskimo was fishing in the arctic, and as the night wore on he got rather cold. So he carefully lit a small fire in his boat to stay warm. Unfortunately, the fire got out of hand as the old Eskimo dozed, and the boat caught fire and sank. Just goes to show, you can't have your kayak and heat it, too.
The Wedding Singer

I am officially a paid, professional, wedding singer.
I was asked to sing at a renewal of wedding vows yesterday (I had to learn to sing one song, set the words of a psalm to a melody, and sing a song that I already knew) and they gave me a $20 gift certificate to one of the local restaurants. That was nice, I was expecting to be a volunteer.
But now I'm technically a professional, which is nice :)

Nexcare bandages are really good. They're stretchy, and sticky, and don't hurt when you pull them off, and they are SO much more effective than bandage tape at keeping gauze over my "stitches." I am an addict.
Wool Sweater

[Warning: rambling post]
I finally have one!! I'd been looking for YEARS. Literally. And then LL Bean had a nice looking wool sweater that looked pretty long, so I went to the store and tried one on, and it fit, and I loved it, and I didn't buy it because it was too expensive.
But then I signed up for their e-mail updates, and they sent me something about giving a $10 gift card for purchases of $25 or more, so that helped the decision along, and I found a free shipping code (saving $10), and I don't have to pay tax if I ship stuff to Missouri because LL Bean has no store in Missouri (saving $9) so I bought the sweater.
And it arrived, and it's beautiful, and it's warm. But today it's 70° out and it'll be too warm for my new sweater for about another week. Alas.

Socks

I wore a pair of clean, new white socks today. Well, they actually have blue toes and a blue heel, but they were mostly white. And it was sort of bittersweet, since I knew that these socks would only be pure white for a few minutes, this morning, before they picked up some stain from my shoes, and from being worn outdoors, and before they eventually get washed and gain a more natural, dusty white color. They just can't be white forever. Alas.
Out of Excuses

I'm out of excuses. My fever's gone, my back doesn't hurt too badly, I've gotten good at not holding things with my left hand. But I'm also out of clean socks, out of pajamas, out of t-shirts, and out of excuses not to do laundry. Sigh.
Stitches

It's a funny expression, "to be in stitches." I'm not laughing, despite having five Steristrips on my left hand, helping a sort-of superglue called Dermabond to hold together the formerly gaping wound. Sort-of artificial stitches. They must not have had these the last time I had to get stitches (when I was about seven). I had never realized how dangerous soup cans can be...
In short, I've had better weekends.
(But on the bright side, an hour into my wait once I'd gotten bored of homework, I went through my wallet because I had nothing better to do, and discovered that I had a $10 Gap reward that was going to expire at midnight on October 31st! So I used it when I got home.)
